Outer Banks Health Earns Breast Program Accreditation

The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) of The American College of Surgeons has awarded Accredited status to Outer Banks Health (OBH) Breast Care Program. Out of over 1300 similarly-sized hospitals, TOBH is the only one across the United States to earn this prestigious designation.

Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation to Outer Banks Health Cancer Program

The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) has granted a Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation to Outer Banks Health Cancer Program. The program met or exceeded 34 CoC quality care standards. Three-year Accreditation with Commendation is awarded only to a facility that exceeds standard requirements at the time of its triennial survey.

2016 Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) Innovator Award

To address the alarmingly low human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine rates in our community with an evidence-based outreach strategy, Outer Banks Health disseminated an educational campaign to primary care physicians and parents of adolescents in order to improve public health outcomes. Becker’s Hospital Review: Top 100 Great Community Hospital 2014

Becker’s Hospital Review named Outer Banks Health one of “100 Great Community Hospitals,” a national list based on community hospitals’ accolades, quality and service to their communities.

Acute Stroke Ready Hospital – Certification

Outer Banks Health (OBH) has earned Advanced Disease-Specific Care Certification for Acute Stroke Ready Hospital from the Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. This designation for excellence in the care of stroke patients recognizes TOBH as equipped to treat stroke patients with timely, evidence-based care prior to transferring them to a primary or comprehensive stroke center.

Accreditation of 3D Mammo, CT, MRI, Nuclear, Ultrasound, X-Ray

Accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR) is recognized as the gold standard of medical imaging. This accreditation demonstrates to patients, payers and referring physicians that Outer Banks Health is committed to providing the safest and best quality care possible.

Outer Banks Health has been accredited by the American College of Radiology as a Designated Lung Cancer Screening Center.

Accreditation of the Laboratory Department

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) Laboratory Accreditation Program’s goal is to improve patient safety by advancing the quality of pathology and laboratory services through education, standard setting, and ensuring laboratories meet or exceed regulatory requirements.

Joint Commission

Outer Banks Health again earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ in 2016 by demonstrating compliance with The Commission’s national standards for healthcare quality and safety. Over the course of 2-days in September, OBH underwent a rigorous, unannounced on-site survey by a team of Joint Commission expert surveyors who evaluated compliance with standards related to a variety of areas.

2018 Rural Hospital Leadership Award

The American Hospital Association (AHA) named Outer Banks Health President Ronnie Sloan, FACHE, the 2018 recipient of the Rural Hospital Leadership Award. The award recognizes small or rural hospital leaders who guide their hospital and community through transformational change on the road to healthcare reform and display outstanding leadership and commitment to improving health and health coverage, and making care more affordable.

Spring-Arbor-Dementia-Friendly-Seal

First Dementia-Friendly Hospital in the state of North Carolina

A Dementia-Friendly Hospital is one whose providers care about the community they serve; listen to the feelings of families dealing with dementia; recognize the signs; understand the special care needs of patients with dementia; and take appropriate action. A Dementia-Friendly Hospital provides an environment where patients with dementia are valued and respected, and where the changes in the person will be noticed, understood and accepted.

Lung Cancer Screening Center of Excellence

Outer Banks Health is recognized by the Lung Cancer Alliance as a Screening Center of Excellence (SCOE). SCOE’s—more than 530 centers across 42 states—are committed to responsible, high-quality screening practices. Low dose CT screening for lung cancer carried out safely, efficiently and equitably can save tens of thousands of lives a year.

2019 Highsmith Award for Innovation

Outer Banks Health received the inaugural North Carolina Healthcare Association (NCHA) with Highsmith Award for Innovation. Named for Dr. John Highsmith, the first president of NCHA, the newly-created award recognizes innovation that creates value for patients and consumers of healthcare. The hospital was recognized for its work to become the state’s first dementia-friendly hospital.

American Heart Association Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus (Silver)

Following the receipt of Stroke Ready Accreditation, the American Heart Association recognized Outer Banks Health for achieving the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus Quality Achievement Award. The hospital was recognized in a virtual ceremony along with other hospitals in the nation.
