Ernest “Ernie” W. Larkin, MD presided over his first meeting as Chair of the Board of Directors on Friday, June 26. Dr. Larkin brings with him nearly 40 years of experience in healthcare. Dr. Larkin joined the medical staff of what is now known as Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC as a surgical pathologist in 1977. He later joined the faculty of the Brody School of Medicine in 1981. Dr. Larkin also served as Chief of Staff, Medical Affairs Officer, and Chief Medical Officer at Vidant.

Stephen Rodriguez was elected to serve as Vice-Chair of the hospital board, a leadership role he also holds on the Chesapeake Hospital Authority, the board that oversees the governance of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare in Chesapeake, Virginia. Mr. Rodriguez is owner of Cruco, Inc., a full service commercial construction company serving Hampton Roads.

New to the board, but not to a leadership role at The Outer Banks Hospital is Stuart L. Bell. Prior to joining the hospital board, Mr. Bell served on the Outer Banks Hospital Development Council for eight years, and was Chair of the Council for the last three years of his service. Currently, Mr. Bell is the Outer Banks Market President for Yadkin Bank. Of his 32 years in banking, Bell completed 26 of those here in Dare County.

The Outer Banks Hospital is a Top 100 Hospital and operates as a not-for-profit community hospital. The responsibility and authority for the management of the hospital and its subsidiaries are vested in its voluntary Board of Directors comprised of 10 members.
