Although Chewbacca and Indiana Jones were no-shows, Jack Sparrow and Marilyn were spotted on the dance floor at The Outer Banks Hospital’s Flights of Fancy to Hollywood gala last month. More than 300 people danced to the music of the Catalinas while dining on the culinary sensations created by the Oceanfront Trellis. More importantly, the hospital’s Development Council netted more than $100,000 for the hospital’s Cancer Resource Center.

“We had a tremendous amount of help from the business and professional community,” said Margaret Wells, who chaired the event. “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of our Outer Banks residents.”

With the prevalence of cancer in the area, the Council and gala committee members worked relentlessly to raise substantial funds so the Center can open in 2007. The black tie affair marked the second year the hospital’s Development Council has designated funds for the Center.
