The Outer Banks Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2007. Born at 1:58 p.m. on January 2nd, Manuel Calletano Jr., weighing in at 7 pounds 11.9 ounces, joined sisters Paola, 5, and Katherine, 3. Proud parents Patricia Andraca-Neri and Manuel Calletano Sr. can claim first baby-of-the-year rights in our area.

Since opening in March 2002, the hospital’s Labor & Delivery Department has averaged 400 births a year. “No one anticipated these rather remarkable statistics prior to the hospital’s opening,” said Van Smith, hospital president. “It is a great testament of the high level of service and care provided by our hospital employees and the medical staff. Of course, one of the real benefits is that mothers can deliver in a safe, comfortable setting close to home.”
