Nags Head, NC – The Outer Banks Hospital is pleased to welcome urologist David Lustig, who is board-certified in urology.

In July, Dr. Lustig relocated his practice from Virginia Beach to North Carolina’s Outer Banks. With over 35 years in the medicine field, Dr. Lustig has substantial experience in urinary incontinence, prostate disease, prostate cancer, erectile dysfunction, and kidney stones.

A primary care physician might refer a patient to an urologist if the patient is experiencing symptoms such as discomfort while urinating, difficulty in emptying the bladder, incontinence (loss of urinary control), hematuria (blood in the urine), pain in relation to the urinary tract, sexual dysfunction, or problems of infertility.

Diagnostic tools an urologist uses to evaluate these conditions may include a digital rectal exam, blood tests or a urinalysis (examining a urine specimen for abnormalities). Furthur diagnostic tests could include imaging studies like ultrasound, CAT scans (Computerized Axial Tomography), or MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).

“We are pleased to expand the services we can offer our community,” noted Van Smith, hospital president. “Dr. Lustig is an excellent addition to our staff and an important part of our mission to provide the residents of Dare County and the surrounding region with the highest quality healthcare services available.”

Dr. Lustig is certified in many urological procedures including: microwave therapy, indigo laser ablation, medstone lithotripsy, urodynamics, and high intensity focused ultrasound. Many urology procedures are available on an outpatient basis.

Prior to moving to the Outer Banks, Dr. Lustig was chairman of the laser committee at Bayside Hospital in Virginia Beach and a member of the board of directors for the Ambulatory Surgery Center of Virginia Beach General Hospital. He is on the medical executive committee of Bon Secours Surgery Center in Virginia Beach and was past-president of the Chesapeake Medical Society.

"I am excited about providing full time Urology Services in The Outer Banks,” remarks Dr. Lustig. “With the recent urology equipment purchases by The Outer Banks Hospital, we now have the capability to treat our patients right here, and they don't have to drive hours to see a urologist. My family and I love living here in the Outer Banks."
