Stroke Care

The Outer Banks Hospital (TOBH) has earned Advanced Disease-Specific Care Certification for Acute Stroke Ready Hospital from the Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. This designation for excellence in the care of stroke patients recognizes TOBH as equipped to treat stroke patients with timely, evidence-based care prior to transferring them to a primary or comprehensive stroke center.

As the first hospital in this region to incorporate 24/7 teleneurology program back in 2014 to assist with stroke treatment, TOBH has taken diagnosis and treatment of stroke to the next level with this certification.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death and the leading cause of disability in this country. In eastern North Carolina, our rate of stroke death is two times higher than the nation's average. But knowing more about stroke can help us lower those rates.

When you come to our hospital, you can be sure we will do everything we can to lessen the effects of a stroke. The first step to getting treatment is knowing the signs and getting help immediately.
