The Outer Banks Hospital, located in Nags Head, North Carolina, is a full service critical access hospital offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. OBH opened in March 2002 and is one of the newest hospitals in eastern North Carolina.
The hospital provides a warm and caring environment designed especially to meet the health needs of our coastal community, whose year-round population of approximately 35,000 swells to about 250,000 in the summer season. OBH, which is fully accredited by the Joint Commission (JACHO), provides high quality care in a compassionate environment to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay, and has been nationally recognized for its outstanding patient care.
The hospital's 21 private rooms are comfortably furnished with built-in couches for family members and visitors. Two of the hospital's 21 beds are designed as labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum rooms, and one is a Level 1 nursery bed. More than 400 babies are born here every year.
The Emergency Department employs physicians who are board certified in emergency medicine and a trauma-trained RN staff who are supported by unit secretaries and nursing assistants. During the summer, a Minor Care section helps accommodate the increased volume that accompanies the tourist season. Dare County Emergency Medical Services provides medical air transports out of the community utilizing the helipad adjacent to the Emergency Department, weather permitting. Surgical and Other Specialities
The hospital has two operating rooms used for general surgery and a third designated for Cesaerean-sections. Hospitalist Physicians
Hospitalists are physicians who care for patients in the hospital. While they are responsible for inpatient care from admission to discharge, they also remain in contact with the referring physician every step of the way.
The Outer Banks Hospital is a partnership between Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Medical Center . The cooperative efforts of these two organizations are testimony to the level of commitment they share for the people of the Outer Banks.
