The Outer Banks Hospital is the natural result of years of growing health care needs in this region, and represents the culmination of many professional relationships. In November 1998, the state of North Carolina awarded a Certificate of Need (CON) to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, anchored by Chesapeake General Hospital, and Vidant Health, which includes Vidant Medical Center. The CON gave the partners permission to build the first hospital on the Outer Banks.
Today, The Outer Banks Hospital is a partnership between Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. The cooperative efforts of these two organizations are testimony to the level of commitment they share for the people of the Outer Banks.
