Laboratory Services

Our Mission: To provide high quality, timely, convenient laboratory procedures in a patient, family and safety focused environment

Patient safety is our utmost concern.  We perform laboratory testing on patients from pediatric to geriatric stages of life. Our staff adhere to the highest standards to ensure patient safety.

The Outer Banks Hospital Laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), widely considered the “gold standard” for laboratory quality assurance. CAP accredits laboratories under deemed authority by CMS (Medicare). Laboratories accredited by CAP adhere to stringent standards to provide accurate, reliable laboratory testing.

Our Laboratory is under the medical direction of East Carolina University Regional Pathology, ECU Brody School of Medicine, Greenville, NC, a regional pathology practice of board certified and sub-specialty certified Pathologists.  Dr Ann Sutton, MD serves as Laboratory Medical Director. She is affiliated with the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and Vidant Health based in Greenville, NC.

Each of our Medical Technologists, Medical Technicians and Support Technicians are registered by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, a standard of excellence in the laboratory field. How do I get a copy of my results?

If you wish to obtain a copy of your laboratory test results the day of your visit, please notify any one of your care providers and we will make arrangements for you to receive your records that day.  To obtain a copy of your laboratory test results any time after your visit, please call our Medical Records department at 252-449-4520.
Please keep in mind that due to regulatory requirements, hospitals must keep a record of anyone receiving a copy of your medical records (including you!).
