Dare County, NC (April 2, 2019) – – NC MedAssist will hold Mobile Free Pharmacy Events in Dare County, NC on Thursday, May 9 (in Buxton) and Friday, May 10 (in Manteo). The events, which are in collaboration with The Outer Banks Hospital, are open to any individual or family needing over-the-counter medications. The event in Buxton will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Fessenden Center (46830 Hwy 12) and then at the Dare County Center (950 Marshall C. Collins Dr.) in Manteo from 10a-2p. Identification is not required to participate but individuals must be at least 18 years of age.

“We are looking forward to bringing the NC MedAssist Mobile Free Pharmacy to Dare County,” said Jennifer Schwartzenberg, Director of Community Outreach and Development for The Outer Banks Hospital. “The Mobile Free Pharmacy event is an opportunity for us to make an impact on the health and wellness of the community. We look forward to helping provide health resources and education to individuals and families in this community.”

Individuals will receive up to eight (8) OTC items for their family/home. Information will also be available on enrolling in the NC MedAssist Free Pharmacy Program. NC MedAssist’s overall goal is to help ease the burden for those who are making the choice between buying food or purchasing medication.

“NC MedAssist is excited to host a Mobile Free Pharmacy event in Dare County,” stated NC MedAssist CEO Lori Giang. “Together with our community partners, we are bringing free over-the-counter medications, like Tylenol and Band-Aids, to area residents. No one should ever go without medicine and the Mobile Free Pharmacy Program enables us to reach those who are unaware of our free resources.”

In addition to free OTC medicine, free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings will be available and a Health Coach will be on-site. Medicine lock boxes will be handed out while supplies last.

To ensure the event runs smoothly and that all participants (up to 800 at times) are served before the doors close, many volunteers are needed. NC MedAssist is partnering with The Outer Banks Hospital and other safety-net organizations to recruit community members to serve in volunteer roles such as pharmacy consultation, client ‘personal shoppers’, and sorters. If you would like to volunteer, please visit www.medassist.org/volunteer to sign up.
