Nags Head, NC (September 29, 2015) — The American Lung Association in North Carolina in partnership with The Outer Banks Hospital announces the formation of a Better Breathers Club in Nags Head. Beginning October 21, 2015 at 4 pm, The Club will meet monthly at The Outer Banks Hospital Medical Office Building/Starboard Educational Suite for one hour sessions to provide support, education, and social networking for people with lung disease, their family members and caregivers.
“Members will learn effective techniques to help them cope with their lung disease,” said Debra R Johnson MAEd, BSMT(ASCP), SC, TOBH Director of Diagnostic Services, “They will receive education and encouragement in a relaxed environment.”
In the United States, over 35 million adults have chronic lung disease such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, or pulmonary fibrosis lung cancer. Lung disease may be managed with medications and other treatment, but learning to live with lung disease can be difficult.
For nearly 30 years, the American Lung Association has been providing information and support to people with chronic lung disease through Better Breathers Clubs. The Clubs provide welcoming support for adults with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and other chronic lung diseases. Members learn skills that help manage their condition and improve their quality of life.
The Outer Banks Hospital staff and community health professionals will provide members with information on nutrition, breathing exercises, and treatment options that are available to help patients live a more comfortable life.
