Melissa Nester, Registered Nurse at The Center for Healthy Living, is The Outer Banks Hospital’s December, 2020 Employee of the Month. She joined The Outer Banks Hospital team in May, 2019.

From day one, she has been a valued team member in multiple departments across the hospital! Since her first day, Nester has blown everyone away with the kindness she radiates to others. Her compassion and ability to connect with patients and their families are some of her most valued qualities.

Nester displays a “can do” attitude at all times and is always eager to help where she can. She has taken on many new roles and assignments during her time with TOBH, learning new processes along the way. Some of these include Mother/Baby, Emergency Department, The Wellness Center, COVID-19 screening, Clinical Coordinator and Occupational Health. Often, she learns as she goes and is happy to do so.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nester has been an integral part of the Resource Team, covering screening and greeting stations with a smile. She is incredibly dependable and flexible. Many days, she filled in at the last minute to cover an absence. Each day, Nester remains kind, patient and compassionate with visitors and patients, especially when they have questions or concerns about COVID-19.

Upon hearing that she had been chosen as the December, 2020 Employee of the Month, Nester stated, “Thank you, I am blown away and honored to be selected as employee of the month for December.” She continued, “I am grateful to be able to come to work and have awesome co-workers that I truly enjoy working with. I have worked in several hospitals and feel that OBH is very special and an asset to the community.”
