The Outer Banks Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2008! Born at 1:45 a.m. on January 1st, Herbert Colby, weighing in at 7 pounds 14 ounces, is the first baby for parents Conrad and Jessica Davenport of Wanchese, who can claim first baby-of-the-year rights in our area. Dr. Daniel Dwyer delivered baby Davenport; Labor & Delivery RN Jeannine Freedom assisted mother Jessica throughout her labor.
Since opening in March 2002, the hospital’s Labor & Delivery Department has averaged 400 births a year. “No one anticipated these rather remarkable statistics prior to the hospital’s opening,” said Van Smith, hospital president. “It is a great testament of the high level of service and care provided by our hospital employees and the medical staff. Of course, one of the real benefits is that mothers can deliver in a safe, comfortable setting close to home.”
