Nags Head, NC – The Outer Banks Hospital’s Get Pinked! Committee recognized the North Banks Rotary as a Get Pinked! Partner in the fight against breast cancer on the Outer Banks. By raising $1,000, the North Banks Rotary joined more than twenty other businesses and organizations on the Outer Banks who have taken a stand against breast cancer. One hundred percent of all funds raised through the Get Pinked! partners will remain in Dare County.
In the recently completed Dare County Health Assessment, cancer continues to rank as the leading cause of death in Dare County. Although the mortality trend for cancer overall is decreasing in Dare County, the incidence and mortality from breast cancer increased from 1999 – 2008. Funds from the Get Pinked! Campaign will assist in the diagnosis and treatment of this disease.
Pictured here holding the ceremonial check that marks their gift is (L-R) Jim Perry, North Banks Rotary Treasurer and North Bank Rotary president John Bone. Margaret Wells who serves on the North Banks Rotary as Chair of Community Services and Board of Director as well as the Outer Banks Hospital Development Council displays the ribbon wreath given to each business at a pinking. The wreath is decorated with pink ribbons and starfish which are the symbols of the campaign.
