Nags Head, NC – In combination with the hospital’s corporate sponsorships in Dare, Currituck and Hyde, the hospital has donated more than $50,000 to the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.

The OBHopefuls team raises money year-long through activities like bake sales, BBQ dinners, Walking Tacos on Relay day, yard sales, Italian dinners and most recently the area’s first Bark for Life- a non competitive walk for canines and their owners.

Pictured here are employee participants in the recent walk, on the “right track” for the hospital: (L-R) Denise Schnabel, Jalila Milne, Elaine Campbell, Betse Kelly, Amy Montgomey, Laura Cane, Cathy Pfendler,, and Carol Cornthwait.

“The Outer Banks Hospital is proud to support Relay for Life,” remarked Amy Montgomery, Director of Community Outreach at the hospital. “Annually, ACS invests millions of dollars right here in North Carolina for cancer research, education and programs that help cancer patients. In fact The Outer Banks Hospital’s Cancer Resource Center uses several ACS programs that help local patients including Look Good, Feel Better; Reach to Recovery and Road To Recovery. We value the ACS and we look forward to continuing to work together to care for people and families affected by cancer.”

The Outer Banks Hospital’s Cancer Resource Center is dedicated to helping patients with cancer better understand their diagnosis and treatment and cope with the disease. The Center, which was created with funds generated by The Outer Banks Hospital Development Council, is staffed by a social worker who provides supportive services to help patients cope with the changes and emotions that often occur when cancer is diagnosed. Additionally, the Center offers help in applying for financial assistance along with locating other resources such as transportation and medication assistance programs. The Center collaborates closely with the American Cancer Society to offer the Look Good…Feel Better and Reach to Recovery programs and hosts The Outer Banks Cancer Support Group’s monthly meeting. All Cancer Resource Center services are provided at no cost. The Center is located on the second floor of the Medical Office Building adjacent to The Outer Banks Hospital and is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and by appointment.
