Nags Head, NC – Named a fit-friendly company by the American Heart Association, the hospital is recognized for promoting a healthy lifestyle among both employees and the community at large. “Most adults in this country spend a majority of their waking hours at work – many in sedentary careers,” noted Amy Montgomery, Director of Outreach and Wellness Coordinator at the hospital. “This increases their risks for medical problems such as obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes.”
Various programs have been implemented at the hospital to promote wellness, including a walking trail, healthy eating options, wellness health screens and educational opportunities. “Many people think of hospitals as a place to go when you’re sick,” added Montgomery. “However, our mission statement reinforces wellness as a goal. We want to keep our community healthy and what better place to start than with our employees.”
