Fearing owns Outer Banks Insurance Agency, an independent insurance agency incorporated in 1957. She managed the agency from 1980 until 2009. While in this position, she obtained the Certified Insurance Counsel designation as well as completed the Insurance Executive Program at Appalachian State University.
Fearing developed and owns the Refuge, a 65 site campground in Wanchese and she is also actively involved in the renovation and design of many of the buildings in downtown Manteo. An example of a building that she repurposed in Manteo is 108 Budleigh, a wedding reception venue. She also manages commercial and residential rentals and investment properties.
Currently, Fearing is serving on the Board of Directors of Roanoke Island Historical Association and is a member of the North Carolina Aquarium Roanoke Island Advisory Committee.
She and her husband, Malcolm K. Fearing, III are members of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church. The Fearing’s celebrated their 35 year anniversary in September. They have three daughters and five grandchildren. The Fearing’s grandchildren were all born at the Outer Banks Hospital.
The Outer Banks Hospital (TOBH) is a non-profit community hospital backed by the strength of two partner owners, Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. TOBH is led and governed by a ten member Board of Directors who represent the interests of our local community, with a standard that 50% of the hospital’s Board of Directors are Dare County residents.
