Taylor Sugg, TowneBank Northeastern North Carolina president, presents a check to Outer Banks Hospital leadership signifying TowneBank’s support of the future Cancer Center.

Nags Head, N.C. – Nov. 17, 2021 – The Outer Banks Hospital Development Council is pleased to announce that TowneBank has made a multi-year commitment to help fund building the world-class Outpatient Cancer Center. The 15,000-square-foot state-of-the-art center will co-locate all of the hospital’s cancer services under one roof to provide compassionate, coordinated, and innovative cancer care to the Outer Banks community and surrounding regions.

“The Outer Banks Hospital has been a vital part of our community for many years and TowneBank has participated in projects to support the hospital, including the Annual Gala,” said Taylor Sugg, TowneBank Northeastern North Carolina president. “Now it is an honor for us to support the vision of building the Outpatient Cancer Center. This new center will help improve the lives and health of residents throughout the Outer Banks.”

The 2019 Dare County Community Health Needs Assessment demonstrated that cancer is the leading cause of death in Dare County, a harsh reality for our small community. Since 2014, The Outer Banks Hospital has been focused on elevating cancer care services and is one of a small number of hospitals with 25 beds or less to have achieved an accredited cancer program through the Commission on Cancer. The goal with this new cancer center is to continue to improve the quality of life and experience for patients and caregivers who are facing the uncertainties that come with a cancer diagnosis.

“We are grateful that TowneBank has joined The Outer Banks Hospital and Development Council in the journey to further enhance the hope and health of Dare County residents,” said Ronnie Sloan, FACHE, president of The Outer Banks Hospital. “With the support of TowneBank, we will make a lasting impact on the lives of community members by providing patients and caregivers the tightly coordinated services they deserve in one convenient location with a team of excellent professionals dedicated to achieving power over cancer.”

The Outer Banks Hospital is a full-service, community hospital offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. A joint venture between Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, the hospital is designed especially to meet the health needs of our coastal community, whose year-round population of 35,000 swells to over 250,000 in the summer season. The Outer Banks Hospital has approval as a provider of Medicare and Medicaid programs, licensure by the Division of Facility Services, and accreditation by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the Commission on Cancer, the College of American Pathologists, and the American College of Radiology.

Founded in 1999, TowneBank is a company built on relationships, offering a full range of banking and other financial services, with a mission of serving others and enriching lives. Dedicated to a culture of caring, Towne values all employees and members by embracing their diverse talents, perspectives, and experiences. Today, the bank operates over 40 banking offices throughout Hampton Roads and Central Virginia, as well as Northeastern and Central North Carolina, including three locations on the Outer Banks – serving as a local leader in promoting the social, cultural, and economic growth in each community.
