Our Mission: To provide high quality, timely, convenient respiratory procedures in a patient, family and safety focused environment.

Patient safety is our utmost concern.We perform laboratory testing on patients from pediatric to geriatric stages of life. Our staff adheres to the highest standards to ensure patient safety.

Our Respiratory Therapy department is under the medical direction of Gary Hunter, DO. Dr. Hunter is the staff anesthesiologist at The Outer Banks Hospital. Dr. Hunter is board certified in Anesthesiology with over 15 years of experience in Anesthesiology. He has been with The Outer Banks Hospital since 2010. Prior to the Outer Banks, he practiced for 13 years in Mississippi.

Our Respiratory Therapy team is made up of Certified Respiratory Therapists and Registered Respiratory Therapists, all licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board.

Respiratory Therapy Services include:

• Electrocardiogram (EKG)
• Arterial Blood Gas (ABG)
• Simple Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)

Outpatient Hours

Outpatient hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 am – 4:30 pm. No appointment is necessary.

Registration:

Please bring your physician’s order, insurance information and 2 forms of personal identification (driver’s license, SS card, etc) to the hospital.  All patients must first complete a hospital registration prior to treatment. Registration allows for gathering of your physician’s order, insurance information and proper patient identification to ensure your safety during your visit.

How do I get a copy of my results?

If you wish to obtain a copy of your laboratory test results the day of your visit, please notify any one of your care providers and we will make arrangements for you to receive your records that day.  To obtain a copy of your laboratory test results any time after your visit, please call our Medical Records department at 252-449-4525.

Please keep in mind that due to regulatory requirements, hospitals must keep a record of anyone receiving a copy of your medical records (including you!). You will be asked to complete a “Release of Medical Information” form prior to receiving your records.This is a measure taken to protect your privacy.
