Cancer treatment places some individuals at lifelong risks for developing lymphedema. Lymphedema is an abnormal amount of protein rich fluid that collects in the soft tissues of affected areas and causes swelling. Swelling can be reduced through manual lymph drainage, compression bandaging, remedial exercise and proper skin and nail care. Lymphedema Therapy helps patients manage the condition.

Lymphedema therapy is provided on an outpatient basis by rehabilitation therapists certified to provide this specialized care. For more information or to schedule your appointment, contact Outer Banks Health’s Rehabilitation Therapy Department at (252) 449-4560.
