Our Emergency Department is open 24/7, and has 17 treatment beds assigned to areas designated for patients requiring specific treatment such as cardiac monitoring, orthopedic care, and others. The facility includes an isolation room, a two-bed trauma room and gynecologic exam rooms – all designed for maximum privacy.
A triage nurse evaluates the condition of all patients who enter the Emergency Department in order to treat the most seriously ill patients first. However, all patients are seen in a timely manner.
The OBH emergency care team includes physicians who are board eligible and/or certified in emergency medicine, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurses certified in advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support. If a patient’s condition can be diagnosed and treated in the Emergency Department, our emergency physicians will provide the needed care. If patients require further treatment, they may be admitted or transferred to a higher level of care.
Emergency patients are allowed two visitors. Two badges will be assigned to those accompanying the patient at triage.
Awarded $250,000 over two years, researchers at Vidant collaborated with East Carolina University’s (ECU) Brody School of Medicine (BSOM) to build a mobile simulation.
