The goal of speech language therapy is to help patients learn or regain the ability to communicate and/or swallow. You may require speech therapy during your hospital stay if your condition effects your ability to communicate or swallow. Additionally, your primary care physician, pediatrician or specialist may also refer you or your family member for outpatient speech therapy to assess and treat treat language, voice, cognition, and swallowing disorders. Speech therapy is also very effective for individuals with traumatic brain injury, stroke, Parkinson’s, dementia, injury to the face/neck, and/or a variety of developmental disorders.
The Outer Banks Hospital offers speech therapy for children and adults on both an inpatient and outpatient basis with licensed therapists who use specialized therapeutic techniques. For more information about speech therapy available at The Outer Banks Hospital, call 252-449-4560.
